Her Excellency Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba

Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba was Botswana’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany based in Berlin and accredited to Republic of Poland (2018 -2022). Ambassador Masire-Mwamba is an international civil servant, with over 30 years senior level experience in the fields of business, development and multilateral diplomacy.

 

She served as the Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat for a period of six years up to 2014. Whilst at the Commonwealth, she pioneered many reforms which were to the benefit of the Member States and nationals, which included the establishment of the first youth-led pan- Commonwealth Network to increase capacity in youth development and youth led programming and she promoted the separation of powers and enhancing the independence of the judiciary in Member States.

 

In 2016, Ambassador Masire-Mwamba led the Commonwealth Observer Mission Group to the Kingdom of Lesotho Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

 

Her extensive experience and exposure started in the telecommunications sector as an engineer in Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC), where she had management and technical oversight of the national network, and played a key role in positioning the Corporation to operate in a regulated environment as it transitioned from a State-owned monopoly to an operator in a competitive market.

 

Ambassador Masire-Mwamba was the first Motswana Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority (BEDIA), and was responsible for the development of national efforts/national strategy to promote the attraction of Foreign Direct Investment. Amongst her signature projects were: the establishment of regional outreach offices in Johannesburg, and London; the establishment of the Botswana based international Global EXPO- now in its 15th year, and the initiation and development of a national brand – Brand Botswana.

 

She holds a BSC in Electronics and Physics from the University of London, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Pittsburgh, a Bachelor of Law degree (LLB) and an Advanced Management Diploma from IESE (Spain). She is also a certified executive coach and trainer, and is the founder of a Botswana based company offering soft skills training focusing on Leadership Accountability Governance. She also serves on a number of International Boards and Advisory Councils.
